Born on 18 January 1954.
1977: Graduated from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, Department of Mechanics and Engineering, with a degree in mechanical engineering for construction and road machines and equipment.
1986: Graduated from Leningrad Engineering and Economic Institute. PhD in Economics.
1977–1984: Worked on the construction of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant; over that period, was promoted from maintenance engineer to chief designer at one of the units of KrasnoyarskGESstroi.
1984–1987: Deputy Director of the Sevzapmetallurgmontazh All-Union Trust of the Soviet Ministry of Assembly and Special Construction Works.
1987–1989: Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Engineering and Construction Department of the Leningrad City Executive Committee.
1989–1993: President of DialogInvest joint venture.
1993–1995: Chairman of the Board at Bank Rossiya.
1995–2001: Chairman of the Management Board of Bank Menatep St Petersburg.
2001–2004 Deputy Chairman of the Management Board at Gazprom.
2004–2007: Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation.
