Russian Antarctic Expedition operations plan for 2018–2022 The plans for the Russian Antarctic Expedition and the parameters of its activities for 2018–2022 have been approved. The new plan is similar to the 2013–2017 expedition and aims to expand Russia’s presence in the Antarctic. In 2018–2019, there will be 110 members of the Russian Antarctic Expedition without counting the ship and aircraft crews; starting from 2021, there will be 125 people on the winter staff and 120 people on the seasonal staff. The plan envisages that the number of the Antarctic stations will be the same as in 2017 until 2020, and starting with 2021, another station (Russkaya) will be added to the all-year stations.

Russia approves International Telecommunications Union regulations Radio Regulations are part of the Constitution and Convention of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). They establish common parameters for using the international radio frequency spectrum and orbital frequency resources for satellites in geostationary orbit and for clutter suppression between radio services. The new version of the Radio Regulations was adopted following the ITU world conferences in Geneva in 2012 and 2015. Submitted by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

Construction of the North Pole ice-resistant self-propelled platform The state programme Socioeconomic Development of the Russian Arctic Zone envisions the design and construction of the North Pole ice-resistant self-propelled platform, a floating observatory for environmental research and monitoring, to ensure continuous, comprehensive research in the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean. The platform is to be put into operation in 2020. The signed documents approve the decision on 2018-2020 budget allocations for design and construction of the platform in the amount of 6,966.6 million roubles. Admiralty Shipyards has been designated as the contractor that will design and build the platform.

Establishing Novosibirsk Islands Federal Nature Sanctuary Novosibirsk Islands Federal Nature Sanctuary with a total area of ​​6,594,496.3 hectares will be created in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) on the Novosibirsk Islands Archipelago and adjoining waters. The purpose of the sanctuary is to preserve unique island ecosystems of the Russian Arctic, which have great environmental and scientific importance, the habitats and breeding grounds of many species of animals, including those requiring special protection (polar bears, Laptev subspecies of walrus, rose gulls and others), and historical and cultural sites related to the period of discovery and exploration of the islands. The adopted decision will create the legal foundation supporting the special protection regime for natural complexes and sites on lands included in the boundaries of the sanctuary.
