There is currently an epidemic of the African swine fever virus in Russia.
A Government Commission was established to take immediate action and prevent the spreading of the African swine fever in the country. The Commission’s regulations were adopted and a rapid response office has been established.
The main goals of the Commission are:
- to make prompt proposals on draft regulations concerning the scope of the Commission;
- to develop and ensure the coordinated action of the federal and regional executive bodies to prevent the spreading of the African swine fever;
- to coordinate the activity of the concerned executive bodies implementing measures to prevent the spreading of the African swine fever;
- to make proposals on including certain animals and animal products in the list of measures;
- to discuss the development and implementation of federal targeted programmes, other programmes and projects to prevent, diagnose and treat the African swine fever;
- to make proposals on funding and equipment for combating the epidemic.
According to the Commission’s regulations, the chairman of the Commission is to approve the action plans. The Government is to approve the composition of the Commission.
The resolution resolves the main logistical issues in order to tackle the epidemic and prevent further spreading of the virus in the country.
