The Muskoka Initiative was approved by the G8 heads of state and government, including the Russian Federation, at the G8 summit at Muskoka, Canada, held on June 25 to 26, 2010.
Up to 366 million roubles in federal budget allocations is to be provided between 2013 and 2015 to implement the Muskoka Initiative by way of holding scientific and practical instruction seminars at two federal state government-funded agencies using the capacity of these agencies’ simulation and training centres, including:
- up to 237 million roubles is to be allocated to the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development for organising 15 seminars at the Academician Kulakov Scientific Centre for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology (up to 79 million roubles per year);
- up to 129 million roubles is to be allocated to the Federal Medical-Biological Agency for organising 12 seminars at the Research Institute of Childhood Infections, St. Petersburg (up to 43 million roubles per year).
The document instructs the Ministry of Health and the Federal Medical-Biological Agency jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the G8 countries, international organisations and countries invited for participation in the seminars about the seminar dates. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also instructed to facilitate the issue of visas to foreign participants.
Implementing the directive will facilitate diffusion of advanced forms and methods of work in the area of maternal, newborn and under-five child health, and strengthen Russia’s ties with the CIS member states and countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
