The agreement was signed in Moscow on 29 April 2014.
It provides for granting a most favoured nation treatment to each other’s investors. The sides grant to each other’s investors, on a reciprocal basis, treatment that is no less favourable than that of its own investors or those from a third state. In the process, each side retains the right to determine, in accordance with its national laws, those economic sectors where the activity of investors is ruled out or restricted.
The draft grants investors the right to an adequate reimbursement if their capital investment sustains losses. It also guarantees unhampered transfer of investment-related payments abroad, and determines measures of judicial protection of the rights of investors, including in international courts.
The agreement’s
ratification and entry into force will ensure long-term stability and
predictability of the legal environment to investors of both sides, and will
facilitate invigoration of bilateral investment, trade and economic
cooperation.
