This directive will help to strengthen Russia’s positions in the world space services market and develop Russia’s space infrastructure.
The directive was prepared by the Federal Space Agency pursuant to the Law of the Russian Federation on Space Activity and Government Resolution No. 394 of 8 April 1999, Using Military Space Systems and Complexes for the Provision of Services in Space Activity.
The directive approves an array of measures to ensure the launch of the Intelsat DLA2 telecom satellite (USA) with a Proton-M carrier rocket and a Briz-M booster from the Baikonur space centre. It provides, in particular, for services involving Russian Defence Ministry resources and access for foreign specialists to launch facilities at the Baikonur space centre.
The contract for the launch of the Intelsat DLA2 telecom satellite was signed between the Khrunichev State Space Research and Production Centre and the International Launch Services Corporation in 2012.
The Intelsat DLA2 telecom satellite (USA) was made by Space System Loral for the Telesat company. When the satellite reaches the designated orbit it will be included in the US national registry.
The launch of the satellite and the manufacture of the Proton-M carrier rocket with a Briz-M booster are funded from extrabudgetary sources.
The launch with Russian carrier and booster systems will help to strengthen Russia’s positions in the world space services market and expand space cooperation.
