Drafted by the Russian Transport Ministry.
The boundaries of the Arkhangelsk seaport have been outlined by Government Directive No. 797-r of May 19, 2010.
The signed document extends the port’s boundaries with a new water area in Severnaya Bay of the Dezhnyov Gulf that washes up on Alexandra Land Island of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago.
The water area obtains the status of an outer harbor of the Arkhangelsk seaport. It will be part of Russia’s functioning Arkhangelsk state sea border checkpoint. This is being done to organise border, customs and other types of control of marine passenger vessels that arrive at the Franz Josef Land Archipelago for tourism.
The decision will help attract more tourists to the Franz Josef Land Archipelago, which will have a positive impact on the region’s economy.
