A draft directive on Russia’s transferring up to US$ 1 million of federal budgetary assets to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation as a voluntary one-time payment has been prepared by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The purpose is to perpetuate the memory of the Soviet prisoners who were kept at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Oświęcim in Poland during the Great Patriotic War and to remember the liberating role of the USSR and its Armed Forces in Europe during the war years.
This document was considered and approved at a Russian Government meeting on 12 December 2013.
