Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov said at the meeting that the President and the Government had issued orders to ensure the safety of transport and to streamline the supervision of transport. The upgraded transport strategy has a large block of provisions on transport safety.
The minister focused on the priority areas and goals for transport safety, primarily technological safety. Maxim Sokolov said the state and private companies are equally responsible for technological safety and that irresponsible practices should have economic, administrative and criminal consequences for both the transport infrastructure operators and their chief executives.
One of the key tasks is to launch information coordination between operators and the supervisory authorities in order to create a system for responding to individual events that can be a risk to people’s lives and health.
The minister said that the staff of the Federal Service for Supervision of Transport must use their authority and opportunities to protect people’s lives and health. They must also take harsher measures to hold transport operators liable and to ensure strict compliance with the law.
