The board of the Ministry of Regional Development held a meeting in Krasnogorsk on the results of the ministry's strategic and territorial planning work in 2012 and the tasks for 2013. During his opening speech, Minister of Regional Development Igor Slyunyayev said that the major task is to develop single standards for developing planning documents.
The primary instrument should be the state programmes that are presently being approved, such as the Affordable and Quality Housing and Utilities, North Caucasus Federal District Development to 2025 and Regional Policy and Federal Relations state programmes. During the meeting, it was noted that the federal authorities have approved long-term development strategies for districts and more than 40 branch development programmes. Nearly all of the regional authorities have adopted socioeconomic development strategies and programmes.
The majority of cities with a population exceeding 100,000 have also adopted long-term development strategies and programmes, which means that they have implemented the tasks set for 2012. The board has held roundtables to discuss establishing state support measures for developing urban agglomerations. It has also discussed problems associated with creating federal, regional and municipal territorial planning documents and improving urban development law.
