In his speech at the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture warmly thanked his Brazilian colleagues for their support and active involvement in organising the second meeting of the Russian-Brazilian Agriculture Committee, which has been working within the format of the Commission since 2010. Nikolai Fyodorov noted that the work of the Agriculture Committee provides an additional impetus to bilateral cooperation in agriculture, which facilitates a search for new forms and opportunities for expanding Russian-Brazilian ties.
The Russian Minister said agreements had been reached in a number of promising areas, including crop production, land reclamation and irrigation, research and education, the agriculture policy and the development of rural territories, veterinary and phytosanitary oversight, as well as the delivery of Russian grain, veterinary vaccines and plant protection technologies to Brazil.
Nikolai Fyodorov said bilateral agricultural trade had reached nearly $3 billion by the end of 2012.
