The Ministry of Regional Development has discussed the implementation of contracts to build Olympic projects in Sochi and cooperation between responsible departments and organisations. Minister of Regional Development Igor Slyunyayev announced a decision to step up control over the project calendar of the 2014 Olympic Games.
The department for coordinating preparations for the Games reported that there are temporary delays in the construction of 49 sports structures, hotels and engineering and utility facilities.
To eliminate risks, the interdepartmental headquarters has established four centres on facilities to accommodate Olympic participants and guests, which now meet on a weekly basis. The Ministry of Regional Development will hold teleconferences to hear reports from contractors working on all Olympic facilities.
The government commission for organising and holding the 22nd Olympic Games and 11th Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014 has established operational headquarters to deal with the construction and use of Olympic facilities. It will meet twice a month – in the first and the last ten days – under the chairmanship of Mr Slyunyayev in line with a proposal contained in the provisions on operational headquarters drafted by the ministry. The government commission is expected to endorse the provisions on the headquarters before March 1.
