Vladimir Puchkov held a meeting of the working group of the government commission on preventing and eliminating emergencies and ensuring fire safety to deal with the consequences of a hail of meteorite fragments that fell on the territory of the Urals and Volga federal districts. On February 15 Mr Puchkov arrived in Chelyabinsk on the President’s instructions to assess the damage done by the hail.
Mr Puchkov inspected one of the worst damaged buildings – the Ural Lightning ice palace. The structures of the building were damaged by the acoustic wave. The Minister instructed his subordinates to enhance the protection of the building, as it might pose a risk.
The String lab has been sent to Chelyabinsk. It is used to assess the stability of buildings after explosions, earthquakes and other emergencies.
The Emergencies Ministry has reinforced its response group in the Southern Urals.
