A working group of the Government Commission on Preventing and Eliminating Emergencies, headed by Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov, is flying to the flood area in the Far East to assess the situation on the ground and elaborate further stabilisation measures.
On Friday the working group will operate in the area of emergency flooding, including the region on the Zeya River.
Currently, the main efforts are aimed at bringing life back to normal in the areas where the water has receded, and helping the local authorities restore the infrastructure and clean up the territory.
The Emergencies Ministry established mobile teams to help the flood-struck regions of the Far East to get ready for the heating season. Special attention will be focused on the elderly, people with disabilities and large families. They will receive help in procuring wood, coal and other fuel.
According to the Emergencies Ministry, the Amur Region was hit hardest by the flooding, which has not yet reached its peak. The flooding spread to more than 4,000 buildings in a single day. Some 13,500 people have been moved from the flood area. The flood is spreading in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
