On August 13, during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan, an agreement was signed on cooperation in aviation search and rescue between the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The agreement was signed by Russian Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov and Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov.
The sides agreed to implement search and rescue operations according to the laws of the respective countries and the current agreement. The agreement does not affect the positions of the states regarding delimitation of the Caspian Sea waters. Each side shall provide for round-the-clock aircraft search and rescue in its respective search and rescue area.
The agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan on building a vehicle bridge over the Samur River in the area of the Yarag-Kazmalar and Samur entry-exit points across the Russia-Azerbaijan state border, signed by Ministers of Transport Maxim Sokolov and Ziya Mammadov, is aimed at creating more favourable conditions for mutual exchange and trade and economic ties between the two nations.
The bridge across the Samur will be built in the area of the Yarag-Kazmalar (Russia) and Samur (Azerbaijan) entry-exit points on the AH8 motorway section – Finnish border – Torfyanovka – Vyborg – St Petersburg – Moscow – Tambov – Borisoglebsk – Volgograd – Astrakhan – Khasavyurt – Makhachkala – Kazmalyarsky – Samur – Sumgait – Baku – Alyat – Bilasuvar – Astra – Rasht – Kazvin – Tehran – Saveh – Ahvaz – Bandar-Imam.
To design and build the bridge, the sides will create a joint working group which will define the location of the bridge, the composition of engineering facilities supporting transport infrastructure and construction, the location of approaches to the bridge, auxiliary facilities, location of exit-entry points across the Russian-Azerbaijani border and sources of share financing for the construction of the bridge according to the agreed-upon project documentation. The sides shall divide equally all expenses concerned with the construction of the vehicle bridge, including the expenses for design and exploration work and material and technical investment.
