As part of his visit to Helsinki on August 11, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi met with the Finnish delegation to discuss cooperation in projects for the Baltic region. The discussion included cooperation under the Helsinki Commission and the Russian-Finnish-Estonian project, the Gulf of Finland Year 2014, and the construction of disposal facilities in Karelia on the Ladoga-Neva rivers and in the Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions. They also discussed cooperation under the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). In June 2013, Russia passed the presidency of the CBSS to the Republic of Finland.
The implementation of the St Petersburg Initiative was prioritised. The initiative was announced during the Baltic Sea Forum in St Petersburg on April 5-7, 2013. It was approved by the participants, prime ministers of the Baltic region’s states.
On the second day of his working visit, Mr Donskoi visited the Biovakka Plant in Vehmaa for the production of biogas, and the utilisation of food and agricultural waste with Finnish Minister of the Environment Ville Niinisto.
At the end of his visit, Mr Donskoi held bilateral talks with Finnish Minister of the Environment Ville Niinisto in Turku on all aspects of environmental cooperation.
