Russian Interior Minister, Police Col Gen Vladimir Kolokoltsev, and Chief of Police of the Republic of Armenia, Lt Gen Vladimir Gasparyan, have approved a draft action plan for 2014.
At the meeting, the heads of police discussed cooperation in combating cybercrime and heard reports about the results of the joint criminal investigation and crime prevention efforts directed at international organised crime groups and crime syndicates.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev noted in his opening remarks that this cooperation has resulted in a steady decline in crime. But international terrorism, corruption, illegal immigration, other trans-border crimes still pose a threat to security.
The Minister noted that there is a little more than six months left before the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The Russian Interior Ministry is responsible for security at the Games.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev remarked that cooperation with the Armenian police has been productive. In 2012-2013, Russian police arrested 561 criminals as part of the interstate crime prevention operation Search (Rozysk). The criminals were wanted by CIS authorities, with 81 to be turned over to Armenian custody. During the operation, Armenian police officers found 20 people wanted by Russian law enforcement authorities.
