Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi has held a meeting of the Public Council at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
During the meeting, experts reviewed the initial results of the Year of the Environment in the Russian Federation, and discussed the draft law On Introducing Amendments to the Federal Law On Environmental Impact Assessment submitted by the ministry and the action plan to incorporate OECD recommendations on environmental issues into Russian legislation.
“With the actions and measures taken in the past six months, we have succeeded in focusing the attention of citizens on urgent environmental problems and their own attitude to nature. Recent public opinion polls show that currently only just over 20% of our fellow Russians are concerned about these issues. I think that this figure can and must be higher. The development of the overall environmental culture directly depends on people feeling personally responsible for the environment and caring about nature,” Sergei Donskoi said.
The Public Council members paid special attention to the results of the Zero Environmental Impact action, timed to coincide with Day of the Environmentalist.
