On July 18, the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief held a meeting of an inter-departmental working group to implement Presidential Executive Order on Establishing a Comprehensive Emergency Early-Warning System.
The video conference involved various departmental experts who discussed the development of regional early-warning systems. It was noted that a number of amendments had been adopted to improve the legislation. The new system is expected to sharply reduce the number of casualties during emergencies.
Participants in the video conference were briefed on the introduction of information technology making it possible to inform the population about the threat of emergencies in time, providing guaranteed information and telling people what to do in case of emergency. A pilot project in the Republic of Dagestan, tailored to the region’s needs, was mentioned as an example.
The roundtable participants noted the need to make use of the currently available early-warning systems and focused on the monitoring and early-warning systems. In addition, the experts suggested that it would be beneficial to work jointly with major organisations and state corporations in various Russian regions which have their own monitoring systems.
