On July 16, the Main Media Centre of the 27th World University Summer Games hosted a news conference by Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko who summed up the preliminary results of the competitions.
The Minister stressed that the World University Summer Games in Kazan were the largest in the history of these sport competitions. The games involved over 11,000 participants from 160 countries. Three billion people watched the games on TV, and at least 770,000 spectators were present in Kazan. Over 60 records were set.
The Minister of Sport also praised the impressive organisation of the games. There were no problems with food provision, security was tight, and the situation centre also performed well.
Mr Mutko said that this experience should be copied during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. He added that representatives of major international sport federations had become interested in the games’ impressive organisation standards.
