Minister of Labour and Social Protection Maxim Topilin said during a news conference on July 16 that Russians support certain provisions of the long-term strategy for the development of the pension system.
He said that people agree that pensions must be calculated depending on the length of employment and that the minimum length of employment should be raised from 5 to 15 years. From 47% to 52.6% of respondents in three polls believe that the shortest length of employment should be 15-25 years.
As for the possibility of putting off one’s retirement in order to receive a larger pension, 32.3% of respondents said they would be prepared to work a few years beyond the retirement age.
Maxim Topilin said that the scheme proposed by the ministry is based on special multipliers that depend on the length of employment. It was earlier noted that women whose length of employment exceeds 30 years and men who have worked for over 35 years should be given additional reward points for pensions calculated according to the new scheme.
Around 80%-85% of respondents said it would be fair if people who have worked for 30-35 years were given a larger pension, the minister said.
For reference:
Polls were held in all Russian regions in June 2013 to gauge people’s attitude to the changes in the pension system proposed by the Government and by experts, as well as to provisions of the long-term strategy for the development of the pension system.
7,274 people aged over 18 years who live in cities and rural areas were polled.
