In 2013, the Ministry of Sport and the Foundation to Support Russian Olympians continued and expanded the programme aimed at supporting Specialised Children and Youth Olympic Reserve Schools.
The programme is part of the Comprehensive Plan to Develop Sport Reserves approved by Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko. It seeks to encourage Specialised Olympic Reserve Schools to get the optimal number of boys and girls involved in regular sports activities, selecting and training talented children with potential to compete on the international level, in order to prepare athletes for Russia’s national teams.
In 2012, the best Specialised Olympic Reserve Schools were awarded 198 grants ranging from one to four million roubles. These grants totalled 439 million roubles.
In 2013, the 300 best sport schools will receive grants ranging from one to four million roubles, totalling 500 million roubles, for both summer and winter Olympic sports.
Subsidies from the Ministry of Sport will be awarded alongside these grants from the Foundation to Support Russian Olympians. These funds will be provided in 2013 for holding summer training camps, covering the cost of food and accommodations during national championships, developing skills and retraining, as well as acquiring sports and technical equipment.
