In a meeting with the president of St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technology, Mechanics and Optics, the Minister of Defence proposed signing a cooperation agreement and subsequently a contract for a number of defence-related works.
The armed forces are in need of large amounts of new software, said Sergei Shoigu. There are plans to launch the construction of a Defence Control Centre in 2013, for completion next year. The Defence Ministry requires applied software, particularly for drones and robots. A large amount of work is being carried out in connection with the need to predict and model the development of various situations. Sergei Shoigu said that the Ministry of Defence was prepared to finance software development starting from next year.
