Participants of the meeting discussed the establishment of scientific units within the Armed Forces.
The Minister of Defence said that structures and personnel lists of such scientific units have already been approved, and commanders and scientific advisers have been selected.
Sergei Shoigu extended his thanks to the heads of higher education institutions for supporting the Ministry of Defence in carrying out this project, and thanked them for their thorough and proactive approach to selecting candidates for scientific units.
The Minister of Defence recalled that the first sports units have also been created in the army. According to Sergei Shoigu, these units are staffed with current and aspiring national team players in various sports. The Minister said that a favourable environment should be created for talented young physicists, mathematicians, software developers and engineers that graduate from higher education institutions. Sergei Shoigu pointed out that enlisting such young men in the army as privates would be a waste. They should serve in an environment in which their substantial scientific and intellectual potential would benefit the army.
Sergei Shoigu said that the Ministry of Defence is about to start headhunting for software developers who are about to complete their studies in non-military higher education institutions. The Minister said that the Ministry is prepared to cover expenses to finance scientific units and intends to recruit the best specialists with great potential, since the demand for their skills and knowledge is very high within the army. Mr Shoigu also said that along with enlisting servicemen the Ministry of Defence will place orders for research and development projects with such units.
