A meeting with representatives of parliamentary parties was held at the Russian Labour and Social Protection Ministry, where the Ministry’s initiatives for the pension system’s development were discussed.
“Public debates on the new pension rules are being continued. During the summer we are ready to provide additional information for analysis, forecasting and use by deputies in their work,” Minister of Labour and Social Protection Maxim Topilin said.
In July-August, eight regional meetings will be held – one in each federal district. “During the trips we will hold more discussions on the new pension rules, special job assessment, and reforming the system of granting early old age pensions. We want to know the opinions of trade unions, employers, the research community, budget sector employees, and other representatives of the public,” the Minister said.
Maxim Topilin noted that the necessary laws have nearly been drafted. “We are currently holding talks with the Finance Ministry and the Economic Development Ministry on certain nuances, including the size of the encouragement coefficients that are calculated depending on the length of service. Mr Topilin added that the Labour and Social Protection Ministry is totally against the Finance Ministry’s proposals to deprive working pensioners of their basic pension: “We think that this is wrong and we will stand our ground.”
“According to the pension formula, service length and salary will increase the pension more than now,” Maxim Topilin commented regarding the new pension rules. Today’s pensioners will have their pensions recalculated if they had a long service term before their retirement. This may be relevant for about 80% of pensioners who, according to estimates of the Russian Pension Fund, have worked more than 30 years (for women) and 35 years (for men) by the time of their retirement.
