A draft historical and cultural standard has been posted on the ministry’s website with the aim of encouraging a broad discussion amongst academics, teachers, parents, students, and anyone else who would like to participate. The historical and cultural standard was drafted by the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with assistance from university and school history teachers, at a meeting of the working group for the new teaching and methodology complex on Russian history.
Designed to facilitate the formation of a single cultural and historical space in the Russian Federation, the historical and cultural standard includes fundamental assessments of the most important events in the country’s history, as well as the main approaches to teaching the subject at schools today, including a list of periods, concepts and terms, events and key figures which must be covered.
