On June 29, Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko attended the opening ceremony of the Universiade Village in Kazan, which took place a week before the 27th World University Summer Games, which will be held from July 6 to 17.
In his opening speech, Mr Mutko said: “The people of the Republic of Tatarstan and the regional authorities with great enthusiasm have done tremendous work to make the visitors to the Universiade feel at home. You can see how Kazan has changed. New sports venues have been constructed, landscaping works have been carried out in the city and a beautiful Universiade Village has been built.”
The Minister thanked President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Claude-Louis Gallien, the executive committee of the FISU and the large student community for their trust in Russia and Kazan. “I am confident that the 27th Summer Universiade will contribute greatly to the development and promotion of university sports," he said. "I wish success to all of you and congratulate you on the opening of the Universiade Village.”
