Defence Minister and Army General Sergei Shoigu visited a training centre where he was briefed on the specifications of operational and advanced prototype unmanned combat air vehicles (UCAVs) demonstrated at its exposition ground.
Sergei Shoigu was also shown over 30 advanced prototype Russian-made UCAV models, which will enter service with the UCAV units currently being established by the Russian Army, Navy and Airborne Force after the relevant tests have been completed. These models are intended to support combat operations and ensure that weapons systems are used more effectively.
The Defence Minister praised the efficiency of the UCAV systems during tactical war games involving motorised rifle units in cooperation with bombers, Army Aviation units, as well as Missile Force and artillery units of the Russian Army which surrounded and destroyed “enemy” units.
Sukhoi Su-24M Fencer-D tactical bombers, Mil Mi-8 Hip helicopters of Army Aviation units, a battalion of Msta-S self-propelled howitzers and a motorised rifle platoon with standard infantry fighting vehicles and attached T-72 tanks were used to support the ground forces. The exposition featured over 100 types of weapons and military equipment, including 28 UCAV systems and 9 UCAV mock-ups. A total of 22 enterprises of the Russian defence industry displayed their weapons and military equipment.
