During the meeting, the officials discussed cooperation in the fight against crime and drugs, as well as information security.
According to Russian Minister of the Interior Vladimir Kolokoltsev, resolving these issues requires that the sides work together and take common approaches. Mr Kolokoltsev said that the ministry has gained considerable experience in countering such threats as terrorism and extremism. Over the past two years, the ministry has cracked down on scores of organised criminal groups that commit serious crimes motivated by ethnic, racial and religious hatred.
The fight against drugs is another important goal of international cooperation. Vladimir Kolokoltsev pointed out that the Interior Ministry accounts for 62% of all crimes uncovered in this sphere. Joint efforts of the ministries are important also because drug trafficking is a major source of financing for terrorism, extremism and other forms of crime. Since criminals are increasingly making use of the internet, it is imperative that the sides share information about common types of cybercrimes.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Ranko Ostojic signed a protocol on cooperation between the ministries for 2013-2015.
