Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko said during the news conference that Kazan is fully prepared to host the Universiade, which will run from July 6 to 17. “About 13,000 athletes will take part in the Games – the number may even be bigger. As of today, 162 nations have applied. The Universiade in Kazan sets the highest standard; it represents a new stage in the development of student sports. Today, other Russian regions are setting themselves the goal of hosting a winter Universiade,” the Head of the Russian Ministry of Sport said. The news conference was also attended by the President of the Russian Student Sports Union, First Vice President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Oleg Matitsyn, and via a video link-up President of the Republic of Tatarstan and deputy head of the Organising Committee of the XXVII Summer Universiade Rustam Minnikhanov.
