On June 24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov chaired a meeting of the Foreign Ministry Board on the goals of Russia’s South Caucasus policy.
Participants in the meeting conducted a detailed discussion of various aspects of diplomatic efforts to accomplish Russian foreign policy objectives stipulated for the South Caucasus by Presidential Executive Order No. 605 of May 7, 2012 On Measures to Implement the Foreign Policy Line of the Russian Federation and the Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation, which was approved on February 12, 2013.Russia's vital interests are historically linked with the South Caucasus. Russia prioritises peace and stability, as well as the joint realisation of economic potential. In this context, participants in the meeting conducted an all-out assessment of the state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations with each of the five South Caucasus states and important issues of ensuring regional security.
