The Minister of Transport travelled by rail from St Petersburg to the Losevo-1 station along the branch which is due to be used by freight trains. For the time being, Losevo-1 is the last station accessible on the branch, but there are plans to extend the line up to Kamennogorsk near the Finnish border. Mr Sokolov said that the thoroughfare to Kamennogorsk should be made possible in the first half of 2014.
The Minister also said that several overpasses needed to be constructed and that the Ministry would ask the Government to allocate additional funds for this purpose. He said that funding of nearly 3 billion roubles was needed to construct at least three overpasses so that communication between municipalities in the Vyborg district in the Leningrad Region remained intact.
The meeting also discussed the development of the rail link between Vyborg and Yermilovo station, the planning of an overpass in Gatchina, as well as several other projects.
