The Ministry of Regional Development, in execution of a Presidential order, is coordinating the provision of housing for veterans, invalids and families of the victims of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
From 2008 to 2013, 278.9 billion roubles were allocated for this programme from the federal budget.
Social support for veterans takes the form of building new housing, purchasing housing and providing social benefits. To implement these measures the Ministry of Regional Development concluded 78 additional agreements with Russian regions in 2013.
All veterans of the Great Patriotic War who registered before March 1, 2005 (28,494 people) had their living conditions improved by May 1, 2010. As of June 1, 2013, 279,229 veterans who registered after March 1, 2005 need to have their living conditions improved. Of these, 232,978 have had their living conditions improved, and 29,643 have been deregistered for various reasons.
In 2013 the federal budget allocated 22.7 billion roubles to provide housing to veterans. Another 7.3 billion roubles have been earmarked for these purposes.
Veterans of the Great Patriotic War in need of better living conditions are still being registered.
