On June 20, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Helen Clark. During the conversation, the two sides examined important issues of cooperation between Russia and the UNDP in the context of strengthening the role of Russia as a donor of international development, and discussed prospects for the future development of cooperation, including the drafting of a framework agreement on a strategic partnership.
Sergey Lavrov met on the sidelines of the Economic Forum with the President of the 67th United Nations General Assembly Vuk Jeremic. The two sides exchanged opinions on topical issues on the international agenda, including the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
Sergey Lavrov also met with the President of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani. They discussed the implementation of agreements which were reached during Mr Barzani’s visit to Moscow in February 2013. Particular attention was focused on the situation in the Middle East, primarily in the context of the Syrian crisis. They saw no alternative to a political settlement to the crisis through the convening of an international conference on Syria in Geneva.
