During the visit, Minister of Labour and Social Protection Maxim Topilin visited the Central Bureau of Medical and Social Examination of the Republic of Tatarstan and the company Kazanorgsintez.
Responding to questions from journalists, the Minister said that the Accessible Environment state programme includes an allocation of 9 billion roubles for 2014-2015. “It’s a huge figure, there has never been anything like it before,” the Minister said, adding that the Republic of Tatarstan was one of the pilot projects of the Accessible Environment state programme for 2011-2015. “Tatarstan has helped us a lot, as we’ve been able to see more clearly what needs to be done to improve accessibility. Here they have found special technologies for a very specific facility, the metro system. Tatarstan can be cited as an example for most of Russia’s regions which have a metro system of how accessible this type of transport can become for people with disabilities.”
The Labour Minister’s trip is part of the official visit to the Republic of Tatarstan of Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets.
