Meeting participants discussed cooperation in combating cybercrime and in detecting and blocking channels of illegal drug trafficking.
Minister of the Interior, Colonel General of the Police Vladimir Kolokoltsev, said that the increase in cybercrime is directly proportionate to the increase of computer network users. However, the national legislation is being improved, the Minister added, specialised police units are being created and Russia and Belarus are working closely together to prevent cybercrime.
Speaking about drug trafficking, Mr Kolokoltsev said that there is a strong connection between drug addiction and overall crime rates. It is estimated that about 70% of profit-motivated offences, including violent crimes, are committed to obtain money for drugs. This is a major problem for Belarus as well. Mr Kolokoltsev said that this is why it is necessary to improve the quality of operational work and prompt exchange of lead information between the two countries.
