On June 18, 2013 a meeting of the Government Commission on Emergency Prevention, Response and Fire Safety was held at the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief. The issues discussed at the meeting included the creation of a barrier-free environment to ensure that people with disabilities can study and use student accommodation at the educational institutions under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection; fire safety at St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University; and safe operation of domestic gas appliances .
Special attention was paid to fire prevention measures at facilities that have high social value and are populated 24 hours a day.
