On June 17, Viktor Ishayev, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, met with Truong Tan Sang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
During the meeting, Mr Ishayev told the Vietnamese President that the Russian leadership is actively seeking to promote relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, the Russian Far East is of special importance as this area is to act as a contact zone between Russia and Asia Pacific.
The Minister mentioned the basic steps to boost social and economic development of the Russian Far East, stipulated in the State Programme for Social and Economic Development of the Far East and the Baikal Region to 2025. First of all, it is the development of transport and energy infrastructure, which will improve conditions for Russian and foreign investment. Mr Ishayev also mentioned a proposal made by his ministry concerning tax exemptions, which is currently being reviewed in the State Duma.
Truong Tan Sang said that Vietnam was closely following the development of the Russian Far East, and that Vietnam’s leadership will continue paying special attention to promoting cooperation with this region. He also said that the leaders of Russia and Vietnam enjoy an atmosphere of mutual trust, which is very important.
In conclusion, the President of Vietnam said that the Vietnamese leadership, including himself, will exert every effort to promote bilateral relations.
