The Central Competition Commission, chaired by Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova, has announced the winners of the 2013 All-Russia Doctors Competition.
The competition featured 40 categories, including several new ones that were introduced this year: Best Specialist in Medical Tests, Best Medical Expert, Best Rehabilitation Medicine Specialist, Best Specialist of Medical Diagnostic Equipment, Best Family Doctor, Best General Practitioner, Best District Pediatrician and Best Radiation Specialist.
To participate in the competition, medical specialists need to have at least 10 years' work experience in the relevant field and to have worked at least five years in the organisation that nominated them.
The competition is held in three rounds. In the first round, candidates are nominated by structural units of medical organisations. For the second round, competition commissions, which include representatives of regional executive bodies and medical academic and public organisations, are formed. The third round is where the Central Competition Commission makes the final decision. This year, the members of the Commission included Leo Bokeriya, Leonid Roshal, Yelena Malysheva, Nikolai Daikhes, representatives of the State Duma and the Federation Council, the Meditsinskaya Gazeta newspaper and a number of healthcare unions.
The winners of the competition will receive cash prizes – 500,000 roubles for first place, 300,000 for runner-up and 200,000 roubles for third place. A prize of 1 million roubles will be awarded to the winner of the Professional Loyalty category. In addition, the winners of each of the following categories will receive 1 million roubles : For Carrying out a Outstanding Operation that Saved Someone's Life, For the Development of an Innovative Treatment, For the Development of a New Line of Medical Research, For Contribution to Medicine Made by Fundamental Science, For Medical Aid to People Wounded as a Result of Conflicts, Terrorist Attacks and Natural Disasters. The prize money in each category will be divided among all the winning specialists.
