During his working trip, the Minister of Defence visited production facilities of the KAMAZ Automotive Plant, the KAMAZ Scientific and Technological Centre and the proving ground of the KAMAZ Foundry. Mr Shoigu acquainted himself with state-of-the-art military vehicles being developed for the Ministry of Defence, and said the Ministry expects to start signing full service-life contracts in 2013. Under these contracts, any company manufacturing military equipment will service and maintain this equipment prior to scrapping.
KAMAZ Director General Sergei Kogogin told the Minister of Defence that the KAMAZ Scientific and Technological Centre had developed the family of Tornado multi-role vehicles, whose state acceptance tests were scheduled to end in 2014. These vehicles will be mass-produced beginning in 2015, Kogogin said.
The Minister of Defence also attended an official ceremony to award the Challenge Pennant of the Minister of Defence to the Republic of Tatarstan for winning the competition for the best conscript-training programme and the best call-up campaign in 2012.
