During his working visit, the Minister of Transport took part in the final meeting of the 2nd Transport of Siberia International Forum. Mr Sokolov heard reports on round tables and conference meetings held during the forum that focused on relevant issues for the transport system, such as the development of road facilities, air, railway and public transport, logistics and transport infrastructure. Special attention was paid to road traffic safety and education for transport-related professions.
In addition, Mr Sokolov together with Vasily Yurchenko, Governor of the Novosibirsk Region, visited an exhibition of transport industry, logistics and transport infrastructure projects. The Minister was shown a promising project to build an expressway bypassing the city of Novosibirsk from the east, as well as plans for the development of a rail link to Tolmachyovo airport. He was also shown an exhibition stand on municipal electric transport and a stand of laboratories at Siberian State Transport University.
Summing up the exhibition and the forum, Mr Sokolov stressed their importance for the development of the regional transport system. The Minister said that the initiatives presented at the forum would be reviewed both in the Ministry of Transport and the Government.
While in Novosibirsk, Mr Sokolov also met with students of Siberian State Transport University and Novosibirsk Academy of Water Transport.
