While on a working visit to the Republic of Latvia, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov attended a ceremony in the city of Jelgava to mark the start of construction of a plant which will assemble and service freight wagons.
“Today we are attending a very important event,” Denis Manturov said. “Railway transport is the foundation of any economy’s transport system. The wagons that will be built at this enterprise will become a component part of Russia's and Latvia's transport systems. Given the fact that nearby countries will also purchase products from this enterprise, production volumes will expand and the clients of this factory will receive high-quality, advanced products.”
The Minister of Industry and Trade thanked the leaders of the Republic of Latvia for their assistance and support in getting this project off the ground.
“I would like to thank the President of Latvia and all the colleagues who took part in coordinating this project to create a favourable investment climate. It is very important that our economic relationship is based on mutual investment, not just on trade,” Mr Manturov said.
The Russian Minister and Latvian President Andris Berzins placed a memorial time capsule inside the foundation of the new train wagon plant.
While in Latvia, Denis Manturov also visited the Riga Nativity of Christ Orthodox Cathedral together with Metropolitan Alexander of Riga and All Latvia. He also met with Russian nationals living in Latvia.
