Minister of the Interior, Police Lt-Gen. Vladimir Kolokoltsev, held a meeting in Pyatigorsk of the Interdepartmental Commission on Countering Extremism in the Russian Federation.
Participants in the meeting pointed out that due to the adopted measures, the current situation in the North-Caucasus Federal District has somewhat stabilised and is under control. At the same time, the crime rate is still high, and it is necessary to adopt a package of additional public, socio-economic, educational and informational measures.
These measures are already being partially carried out following executive orders issued by the President in May, primarily Order No. 602 on ensuring interethnic accord. In cooperation with the departments that are members of the commission, the Ministry of Regional Development has elaborated a strategy for the state ethnic policy to 2025, as well as a package of measures on harmonising interethnic relations, ensuring national security, law and order and political stability in society.
All these measures are reflected in the programme of the Ministry of the Interior for 2013–2015 and the interdepartmental plan on fighting extremism for 2013-2018.
In addition, the participants discussed the efficiency of youth policy in the North Caucasus Federal District and measures to combat the funding of extremism and terrorism. They also reviewed some socio-economic issues and relations between the government and religious organisations.
