On May 27, 2013, Russian Defence Minister and Army General Sergei Shoigu attended a meeting of the Council of Defence Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), and a joint plenary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers, and the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO’s Security Councils in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
At the plenary meeting, the current state and structure of the CSTO system of collective security was discussed along with its ability to meet all challenges and security threats for the organisation’s member states. Officials also discussed measures to improve the system and a number of documents related to the joint activities of countries under the CSTO.
During his working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, General Sergei Shoigu held a bilateral meeting with his Kyrgyz colleague Major General Taalaibek Omuraliyev. He also toured the facilities of Russia’s air base in Kant.
