The signing ceremony was held at the Don-2N radar station in the Moscow Region’s Sofrino.
The agreement stipulates the transfer of released military property to the Moscow Region and the region’s municipalities. Currently, ownership of 83 military towns has been transferred to local authorities. By June 2013, the region will control over 140 military towns.
During the signing ceremony, Defence Minister and General of the Army Sergei Shoigu noted that the transfer of unused military facilities will provide new impetus for the region’s development, and that this work will continue into the future.
Acting Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov said that the region’s authorities plan to build new production facilities, including eco-friendly zones and major logistics centres, on the transferred sites.
The head of the Moscow Region thanked the Defence Ministry’s administration for their constructive approach to transferring unused military grounds and facilities.
