A regular meeting between the Russian and Belarusian Defence Ministries took place in Minsk on April 23. The meeting was attended by the countries’ Defence Ministers, Russian Army General Sergei Shoigu and Lieut. Gen. Yury Zhadobin.
Prior to the meeting, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with the Russian Defence Minister. The two sides discussed current issues of improving the military activity of the Russia-Belarus Union State and outlined ways to develop integration processes in a number of priority and especially promising areas.
Mr Shoigu said that the use of joint regional troops is being discussed, as well as the protection of the external air border of the Union State, a unified regional air defence system, the development of joint military systems and coordination of the activities of Russia’s and Belarus’ armed forces. The meeting also focused on the implementation of the Integrated Programme for Military-Scientific Cooperation between the Ministries of Defence of Russia and Belarus for 2011 – 2015.
