Minister of Defence and General of the Army Sergei Shoigu attended a meeting of the supervisory board of the Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation and Fleet (DOSAAF), where he was unanimously elected its chairman.
Addressing the meeting participants, Mr Shoigu said that DOSAAF has always worked towards major goals concerning youth patriotic education, preparing citizens for military service in specific military occupational specialties, and training specialists in general technical professions.
The minister also spoke of the development of applied, aerial and technical military forms of sports, as well as the need to ensure that aircrews and engineering and technical staff maintain the required level of proficiency.
Mr Shoigu emphasised the importance of the role of the supervisory board, saying that it is through this board that the Government provides its representation in DOSAAF. According to the minister, the supervisory board develops the strategy of the voluntary body’s development, coordinates its activities, assists in providing funding from the federal and regional budgets, and oversees financial expenditure. In this regard, it is crucial that the board includes respected representatives of the federal executive and legislative bodies concerned.
