The Expert Council has been established in compliance with the Federal Nature Reserve Development Strategy until 2020. The Strategy has been adopted by the Government to improve state management in the organisation and functioning of nature reserves.
The Council is to develop proposals and recommendations to facilitate the adoption of decisions on strategic nature reserve development issues in Russia, and specific problems facing individual nature reserves and national parks. In particular, the Council will work to improve the legislation related to nature reserves, create a regional network of nature reserves, develop environmental education, promote tourism in nature reserves, and other issues.
The Expert Council is a standing advisory collegial body that works on an unpaid basis.
