In 2012, nearly 8.3 million children – or 58.3% of all schoolchildren – were involved in various recreational activities, Minister of Labour and Social Security Maxim Topilin said at the meeting. He mentioned the Primorye and Khabarovsk territories and the Lipetsk, Oryol, Penza, Rostov, Sakhalin and Tyumen regions, where over 90% of schoolchildren enjoyed the recreational activities that were organised for them last year.
Speaking of organisational issues, Mr Topilin said that during the 2013 summer recreational campaign, some 52,000 children’s camps and leisure and recreational centres will work. Recreational services will be provided to 8.4 million children, which is 100,000 more than last year. A total of 39 billion roubles will be allocated this year from the regional and the federal budgets for this purpose, or 4.6% more than in 2012 when the sum was 37.3 billion.
During the conference call, regional representatives reported on local preparations for the summer recreational campaign. The Minister told the regional representatives about the need to sign contracts in a timely manner regarding food provision for children’s recreational institutions and implementing strict control over food quality and safety, fully complying with supervisory body instructions, to complete overhauls and current repairs of children’s camps without delay, ensure children’s safety during their transportation to and from recreational areas and during their games, sports competitions, tours and bathing.
