Minister of Labour and Social Security Maxim Topilin addressed the high-level tripartite panel discussion Job-Rich Growth and Quality Jobs. Mr Topilin said Russia had managed to reduce the level of unemployment caused by the global economic crisis. “Russian unemployment levels, which had totalled just over 6-7% before the crisis and 9% during the crisis, have now dropped to about 5%,” the Minister noted.
Maxim Topilin also held a number of working meetings in Oslo. He met with International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director General Guy Ryder, European Commission Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Laszlo Andor, Minister of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Turkey Faruk Celik and Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy Natalia Korolevskaya. The discussions mostly focused on issues regarding the agenda of Russia’s presidency in the Group of Twenty, as well as employment for young people and social support for socially vulnerable categories of the population.
